At the Havasu Community Health Foundation, we recognize that Hunger can affect people from all walks of life. Many in our Lake Havasu community are just one job loss, missed paycheck, or medical emergency away from hunger. As reported by Feeding America, hunger doesn't affect everyone equally some groups face hunger at much higher rates. Hunger also most often affects many of our neighbors who live in or near poverty.
The Havasu Community Health Foundation FOOD BANK is determined to end hunger in Lake Havasu City. “Food should not be an impossible choice. Join us in Choosing to END HUNGER.”
Last year we served an average of 629 households per week in Lake Havasu City; and once again, we distributed over ONE MILLION pounds of food to our residents and those who are near homeless. Hunger is one of the greatest threats to our community. However, this valuable community service comes at a high cost. You can help! Together, we can ease hunger by donating to the Havasu Community Health Foundation FOOD BANK.
During the month of October, the Havasu Community Health Foundation FOOD BANK recognizes “Hunger Awareness” in our rural Lake Havasu community. This recognition is especially important because rural (nonmetropolitan) counties make up 63% of all U.S. counties but 87% of counties with the highest rates of food insecurity.
At the Havasu Community Health Foundation FOOD BANK, we have a home delivery team of volunteers who work every Wednesday, to package the grocery delivery boxes with fresh food and take the essential groceries to food-insecure seniors, who have no transportation, and to homebound disabled residents throughout Lake Havasu City.
Your neighbor, colleague, or even friend may be forced to sacrifice food to make ends meet.
Clients receive a monthly box of commodities. The boxes are intended to be supplemental only and not intended to get you through the entire month. We strongly encourage you to sign up for other nutritional programs you may qualify for to help stretch your food dollar such as: SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) formerly known as food stamps WIC (Women Infant & Children) for children ages 0-5 CSFP (Commodities Supplemental Food Program) for seniors ages 60+ Meals on Wheels for elderly or handicapped individuals unable to come in and pick up boxes.
The Food Bank Days and Hours Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 10:00 am – 1:00 pm Bread & Produce are available with monthly boxes however you may receive additional bread and produce when available on the following days: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, between 10:00 am – 1:00 pm Each time you pick up produce you will need to bring the following documents: Food Bank Card Valid Picture ID
Please reach us at office@havasuhealthfoundation.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We have applied for and received food from a major distribution center, St. Mary’s Food Bank, Feeding America. We are active in a grocery rescue program with a few grocery stores in Lake Havasu. Many generous organizations in our community will hold food drives and hundreds of Lake Havasu citizens come out annually to support all that we are doing to take a bite out of hunger.
Both food and money are very helpful. Often the HCHF Food Bank can purchase food at a better price than the consumer.
The HCHF Food Bank is a drive-through where clients remain in their cars and shoppers select the food and load their cars. Once a week we provide a home delivery service to Senior Citizens or shut-ins who are without transportation.
Qualifications for Food Banks fall under the 185% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Anyone in need of emergency food may get something to eat; however, this does not necessarily mean that they will qualify to become a Food Bank member.
Arizona TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) distribution guidelines do require some form of identification to become an ongoing member of a Food Bank. To show that you live in the geographic service area of the TEFAP distribution site. The amount of food we receive from our distribution center is based on the number of members that we service.
No one goes away hungry! We believe that “Food should not be an impossible choice.” “We choose to end hunger!”
