The Havasu Healthy Striders (originally the Havasu Health Walk Challenge) was started in 2007 to motivate people to walk, get healthy and raise money for walking events to assist people in attaining their goals. We started with the ROC, (Relay of Celebration) where teams of 1-4 people competed in a 30-mile walk relay throughout the city. The premise was to motivate people to walk and to get friends together to walk, as having a walking partner or partners encourages people to continue doing it. The ROC’s premise was based on a similar walking competition in Portland, Oregon. I had started exercising regularly, so this appealed to me as well as several friends.
Today the Havasu Healthy Striders provides an opportunity for individuals to get on their feet and join us for weekly walks, join us every December to celebrate our “Jingle Bell Walk.” And now, thanks to Mercury Events, together we provide Lake Havasu City with the annual spring event, Havasu Half Marathon, and 5K Run. This event draws over a thousand participants, 200 have already signed up for the 2023 Havasu Half Marathon next year.
The Havasu Healthy Striders committee is always trying to come up with events to keep people motivated as well as do something fun. Our goal is to provide you with an opportunity to “Get on Your Feet.”
